The rain came down with a pitter-pat,
On my window, on my hat.
Puddles danced and clouds were gray,
Then the sun came out to play.
I had waited all day long,
Listening to the raindrop song.
Drip and drop and splash and spin—
Water music on my chin.
Then a hush, a golden beam,
Split the sky and lit a dream.
Colors climbed from earth to air,
Painting hope for all to share.
Red and orange, yellow bright,
Green and blue in morning light.
Indigo and violet too,
A rainbow smile just for you.
I ran outside in boots of blue,
And Mama came along there too.
We pointed high and counted each,
The colors just beyond our reach.
“Where does a rainbow start?” I said.
“And where does it rest its head?”
Mama smiled and held my hand.
“It starts in hearts that understand.”
When the weather feels unkind,
Keep a rainbow in your mind.
After rain, the colors show—
Hope can shine and help you grow.
So if your day is wet and gray,
Remember sun will find a way.
Storms may visit, storms may go,
But rainbows teach us what we know:
Every cloud can hold a light,
Every dark can turn to bright.
Look up high and you will see—
A rainbow waits for you and me.
