How Seeds Become Flowers

Omar held a tiny brown seed in his palm. It looked plain and quiet, like a little stone. “How can something so small become a flower?” he asked. Grandma smiled and handed him a pot of soft soil.

“Every flower begins as a secret,” Grandma said. “The seed holds the plan inside. Our job is to help it wake up.”

They made a small hole in the soil with Omar’s finger. Omar placed the seed gently inside and covered it. Grandma gave him a cup of water. “Not too much,” she said. “Seeds like a drink, not a swim.” Omar poured carefully. Then they set the pot by the sunny window.

“Seeds need three friends,” Grandma said. “Soil, water, and sunlight. And one more thing: patience.”

Omar checked the pot that afternoon. Nothing. He checked after dinner. Still nothing. “Is it broken?” he asked.

“It is working underground,” Grandma said. “Roots grow first, where we cannot see.”

Days passed. Omar watered the soil when it felt dry. He turned the pot so every side could feel the sun. He talked to the seed sometimes, which made Grandma laugh. “Hello, little seed. I am waiting for you.”

On the fifth morning, a green sprout peeked up. Omar shouted so loudly that the cat jumped. Then came tiny leaves. Then a thin stem. Then a bud like a closed green fist. Omar measured it with a string and drew pictures in his notebook each day.

One sunny morning, a yellow flower opened wide. It looked like a small sun sitting in the pot. Omar cheered and ran to show Grandma. She hugged him and said, “You helped life grow. That is a powerful thing.”

Omar learned that growing takes patience, care, and time. He also learned that waiting can be exciting when you are caring for something. Grandma said, “People grow the same way. With love and patience, wonderful things bloom.”

Omar never forgot his first flower. He planted more seeds that spring—beans, sunflowers, and herbs for pizza. Each one taught him the same lesson: small beginnings can become beautiful when we care for them every day.
