Luna and the Sleepy Stars

High above the world, where the sky turns deep blue and the air smells like dreams, lived a little girl named Luna. Luna was not an ordinary girl. She lived among the stars, and her job was simple and sweet: help each star find its place before bedtime.

Every evening, Luna put on her silver slippers and walked across soft clouds. She carried a tiny lantern made of moonbeams. “Time for bed, little lights,” she would call, and the stars would sparkle in reply.

Most nights, the stars settled easily. They loved their cozy spots in the sky. But one evening, three tiny stars were too excited to settle. They zoomed and sparkled and giggled across the heavens. They raced around the moon. They played hide-and-seek behind the clouds. They even tried to bounce on a rainbow that had stayed out too late.

Luna smiled and held out her hands. She was never angry with the stars. She understood that even little lights need time to calm down.

“Come, little lights,” she said softly. “Even stars need rest. Tomorrow you will shine again, brighter than ever.”

The first tiny star zoomed past her ear. “But we want to play forever!” it laughed.

Luna sat on a fluffy cloud and began to sing. Her song was slow and gentle. It was about quiet hills, sleepy birds, and gentle winds that whisper goodnight. She sang about children in their beds, about cats curling up by warm fires, and about the moon watching over everyone.

One by one, the stars slowed down. Their giggles became soft sighs. Their sparkles grew warm and steady instead of wild and fast.

Luna took the first star by the hand and tucked it beside the Big Dipper. “Here you can watch over the forests,” she said. The second star she placed near a soft pink cloud. “Here you can dream of candy skies.” The third star she set right above a sleeping town. “Here you can guard the children while they sleep.”

The three stars glowed happily. “Thank you, Luna,” they whispered. “We feel safe now.”

Luna walked through the rest of the sky, checking on every star. She straightened a crooked constellation. She patted a shy little star that hid behind the moon. She waved to the North Star, who always stayed awake to guide travelers home.

When her work was done, Luna yawned too. Her lantern flickered softly. She curled up on a moonbeam as soft as a blanket and closed her eyes. The night was safe and bright. Below, children everywhere drifted into peaceful dreams under the watch of Luna’s sleepy stars.

And if you look up tonight and see the stars shining calmly, you will know Luna has done her job. She is resting on her moonbeam, ready to help again tomorrow. Sweet dreams, little one. The stars are watching over you.
